UPDATE for Official Xena Fan Club members:

XENA NEWSLETTER #19 approved and in production.  There were two moments in
my interviews with Lucy and Renee in this issue where they spoke about each
other that I thought you might enjoy.

Here's Lucy's response when I asked if she would have chosen the 40,000
souls over Gabrielle.

"I really love that Gabrielle says, 'I don't care,'" Lucy said softly.  "I
love that so much.  It was human and so very real.  I wish we could have
explored that idea.  Not that it needed to be explored more.  It was all
there in Renee's face.  But it was so interesting to me."

Here's a bit of the conversation I had with Renee about me describing Lucy
as "loopy."

"I talked with Lucy last Tuesday and it came up that when people ask me
what Lucy's really like, I list a few things and then I say she's also kind
of loopy."

Renee burst out laughing.

"She didn't seem offended and I said she's like Meg.  Meg's loopy," I
explained.  "Meg gets this look on her face and her elbows go out.  It's a
goofy sense of humor that Lucy also has that's unexpected . . ."

". . . because she's so strikingly beautiful," Renee chimed in.  "You
wouldn't expect that from someone who looks the way Lucy does.  She looks
like a femme fatale and to be goofy and
loopy really throws you."

For those who have been asking, the Official Xena Fan Club Newsletter #18 has started to ship.  I thought I'd give ya'll a peek at issue #19.

There were some interesting notes on the recent photo approval forms I sent to Lucy and Renee that I thought you might enjoy.  I sent a batch of photos from Hercules episodes where Lucy did crossovers.  Next to one of the numbers was a smiley face.  When I looked up the matching photo, it turned out to be from "Stranger In A Strange World."  It's a photo of Xena at the end of the cake fight with Aphrodite.  Lucy said she just loved that shot. Sure can't accuse her of only clearing photos where she looks perfect as so often happens in Hollywood.  In fact, both Lucy and Renee have never had any qualms about approving photos where they were messed up, dirty, funny-looking or screaming in battle.

Renee wrote "Wow!" next to one from Hercules and the Lost Kingdom.  It is a picture of Renee as Deianeira standing before a castle.  She thought the composition of the photo was stunning with the castle in the background and the flowing robes of her costume.

Renee happened to be in our office when the photos for the photo club "comedies" month were ready to approve and she sat down at my desk and began to look them over.  I heard her chuckling and went over to see what was going on.  "When I got into this business, I never thought I'd have to make a note like this," she said, laughing and pointing at what she'd written.  This is what was on the approval form, "Please crop out pasties." It was a photo of one of the naked dancing Gabrielles from "The Quill Is Mightier."  You can check out the pic from February 2002 www.creationent.com/outback/xpc/02/feb02/Feb2002.html  and see how we did.

The DVD for the finale had just been released when I interviewed Lucy for issue #19.  I listened to the commentary done by her, Renee and Rob and asked follow-up questions to things mentioned on the DVD.  In her interview, Lucy talks about playing Young Xena, doing cartwheels, Xena's relationship with the young women in her life and Xena's choice to save the 40,000 villagers of Higuchi rather than staying with Gabrielle.  Guess which character from the show she misses most.

For her interview, Renee gives us a look into her life as a student studying Shakespeare at Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum.  We learn her thoughts about Gabrielle taking a fencing class, being given a scene where she finds a headless body for the second time in her acting career and the joys of scansion.  Wait till you read who turned up in her Shakespeare class!  Her thoughts on Lucy being "loopy."  And we find out which character from the series Renee misses  most.
